Orbitz is a Nightmare

When you make a reservation with Orbitz be very careful. By default they have the "buy travel insurance" box checked. In my haste to buy a ticket I didn't even notice this. Right after I'd made my purchase I received an email  from Access America informing me of the insurance that I'd purchased.

It has been a nightmare to cancel even though my trip isn't until May 21st. I have called Orbitz TLC (what a joke!) where I was told that I should contact the insurance company directly. When I insisted that I'd bought my ticket from Orbitz and it was their responsibility the customer service agent reluctantly agreed to call them on "my" behalf. I was told that everything was settled and that I would get a cancellation notice from the insurance company. This didn't happen. I sent three emails to Orbitz with no response. I finally called Orbitz again and spoke to another customer service agent. he went through the same spiel and told me that everything had been taken care of and I should get an email from Access America shortly. Well I'm still waiting for that email. My last resort is to dispute the bill with my credit card company when I get it.

Extremely disappointing. I will never do business with Orbitz again. Isn't it downright criminal to expect the customer to uncheck the travel insurance box? To buy insurance should be a conscious decision not something that should be sneaked by the customer.
